Lakefield Station, on the northern Sturt Plateau encompasses 60,000 hectares of savannah woodlands with native grasses and is phosphorus deficient. We run approximately 8,000 mixed age cattle - 2,500 breeder self-replacement herd. We have been using a custom made loose lick up to 35% urea mix. This year, we have switched to the BLM products - Green Cap and the Blue Cap + Phos. We have used the green Cap with our weaning and trucking of steers and light conditioned cows and calves.
We have great success with the Green Cap with our weaning, putting the recommended rate through the dispensers in the water troughs. Initially weaners were frightened and agitated when first drafted off, but after a night in the yards on the medicated water there was amazing transformation. The weaners were calmer and settled, eating hay and calf pellets. When it came to tailing, Michelle commented that the weaners were very easy to tail with the dogs in the yard. After a couple of hours of being worked with the dogs, Michelle took 850 fresh weaners outside without any drama.
With trucking steers we have a weight loss from shrinkage of approx. 14 kilos from Lakefield to Darwin (450km). We used the green cap at the required rates in the water supply in the paddocks three days before mustering and in the troughs in the yards. With a chopper, we yarded and weighed 460 of our steers with an average of 298 kilos. They were trucked the following day and weighed in Katherine (150km) with an average of 298 - no weight loss and then a 7 kilo weight loss from Katherine to Darwin when weighed on delivery. We had saved 7 kilo by using the Green cap.
We trucked 300 light condition drought-master cross cows & calves down to Alice Springs and then 250km up the Tanami Road. All cows and calves walked off the trucks. These cows where on the Green Cap 3 days before, right up to trucking, they had two dips over four days in the dip yards whilst on route to their destination.
We have since weaned another 800 weaners with the same results as the first round. Our first round weaners went on to the Blue Cap + Phos when turned out. So far, they are doing as well as if they were on our custom mix weaner supplement.
We have placed the whole herd on the Blue Cap + Phos, with encouraging results thus far.
We would not hesitate in recommending the Green Cap to anyone. We are extremely satisfied with the results that we have gained.

Living in Northern Australia for nearly fifty years and growing up with the cattle industry I have been involved with different supplement trials and used different ones just for our own interest. All at great expense and various results, but probably the hardest part was the physical distribution. Also, did the animals that needed it, get their share?
With Beachport Liquid Minerals if there is no surface water then everyone gets some. Still the best part is the simplicity of distribution. Just calculate the required amount, measure into 10 or 20 litre container, screw on the simple dispenser and put in tank or trough. After three or four days the liquid minerals will have dispensed into the water, collect the container and you can do other things for a fortnight. When I first heard the word 'Liquid' my immediate reaction was to be wary as I could imagine expensive medicators , and even a flash picture of dead animals, and all sorts of other worrying things that could possibly go wrong.
Not so, the dispenser is so simple and easy to use, it's just that it takes most of us a bit of time to accept that there are a few simple things still available in this fast moving world. Kym is not having a go at you when he is explaining how simple it is. Its simple and it works. Both the dispenser and the minerals.

During the last part of 2010, we attempted to destock due to an extended dry spell. The operation took twice as long as predicted, due to the condition of the cattle. Instead of shifting eight decks per week, we only managed four, as most of them needed that time to brighten up for transport.
We were alerted to the possible benefits of Beachport Liquid Minerals, particularly the "Green Cap" mix and decided to try it. The positive effects were noticeable immediately as to the demeanor of the cattle (although mostly very quiet) and the obvious moisture retention, something that the carriers noticed straight away. While we were cautious about which cattle not to load at first, eventually it would be fair to say that there were about 25% of each load that would not normally be sent. It was a case of damned if you do or damned if you don't, as the benefit of moving them to country with feed on it, were greater than trying to maintain them on hay, assuming they survived the journey.
We shifted about 870 head which were mainly cows, calves and heifers. The trip was approx 600km of which about 90% was dirt and never lost or looked like losing a head.
As well as using the "Green Cap" for trucking, we also administered six tanks with the "Blue Cap" approx six weeks before an unexpected rainfall event and found that the cattle "picked up in condition much quicker that expected.
We have no doubt that the products benefited the stock and we will be using it again in the future.

Mark Bryant - Livestock Agent
3 states over 30 years experience
South Australia
I first discovered Beachport Mineral Liquid when working as a Livestock Agent on Yorke Peninsula South Australia. The country there does have deficiency problems and often all livestock, despite best animal health practise ‘lack something'.
Bronte Mumford had some merino ewe lambs not doing so well so we split them two ways needled each mob with B12 and half gave this ‘stuff' we had sitting on the show floor. It was Beachport Mineral drenched down the neck. In two weeks I went back and drove round the mob, could not see the difference in the paddock, which one would expect (but Hey you never know!! ) We did not get them in to yards for a month and when we did we drenched the lot with the stuff.
We sold gallons of the stuff as you would know., because of this experiment.
Moved back to Victoria and have not had access to sell the product from the company I work for ( long story as to why ) however Gorst Rural supplies in Lake Bolac sell it. Colin Holmes of ‘Cedar Park' Willaura was having difficulty with his sheep "doing" during the drought in 2007. I told him about Beachport Mineral Liquid, when he shore in autumn 2008 he told me he usually has 3 bales of tender wool in a dry time he cut this back to half a bale and the only thing he did differently was the Beachport Mineral Liquid. He is still using the product.
Geoff Blomeley ‘Kalinda' Carranballac had 1st cross lambs and merino lambs not "doing" at the same time I got him onto the product the result was the same, he still uses the product.
The only way you are ‘really' going to know is to try, and that is my recommendation, once you observe the difference then you will always have a drum on hand.
The difficulty with livestock management is the animal cannot tell you what it lacks, so the best way to be sure is make sure it lacks NOTHING!!! Give it a Beachport Mineral Liquid regularly and leave the rest to the animal!
Thanks for allowing me to use this product and see what it can do.

Millicent Farm Supplies has had a great association with the Sutherland family and their company Beachport Liquid Minerals. We have stocked their products since they came on to the market in 2006. The BLM line of products has been well accepted by our clients and the feedback is always positive. It is a very cost effective product with great quality control.
Our clients find the product easy to use and effective on both cattle and sheep, I guess the best comment I can make is that, it is a product that our clients use every year and trust it as an important part of their animal health programme.

Go-Go Station
Fitzroy Crossing
Western Australia
(Photo: Dan & Jackie)
Dan Grant, Manager of Go-Go Station has used the BLM Green Cap mix to truck over 2,000 head of spade cows and 250 head of bullocks the 2,900 km. from Go Go Station near Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberly to Harvey Beef south of Perth in Western Australia.
They gave the sale cattle their dose of Green Cap in their water supply using the BLM floating dispenser on the Wednesday and they were trucked on the Friday. Dan with some early spade cows to Harvey had dosed one road train with BLM Green Cap and one road train without. The dosed cows due to truck problems took a day longer to reach their destination but still weighed 8 kgs heavier then the undosed cattle that had arrived a day earlier.
Dan's comment to Kym & Chris Sutherland when they visited Go Go in mid September was, "It's a great product, easy to use and we will certainly be using it in the future."

Roebuck Export Yards
Broome
Western Australia
Paul the manager of the export yards did an independent test on Beachport Liquid Minerals. They used our green cap (low stress mix) and also used our BLM dispensers to administer the BLM green cap. They had a line of 800 heifers averaging 300 to 350 kgs, coming into the yards. So they split the line in to two mobs of 400 and weighed them on entry to the yards.
They dosed 400 of the heifers with BLM and left the others not dosed. They were then weighed again 4 days later as they we trucked out. The 400 heifers dosed with BLM were 2 kgs heavier than the 400 heifers not dosed.
At the time of the trail, the price per kg. was $1.50. So a $3.00 per head improvement. Or $1,200 ,for the line of 400 heifers.
If you dosed at the recommended dose rate of 35 mls. (only 1 dose) for 350 kg animals. That would be a per head cost of 58c ($232.00) to dose 400 heifers. So for an investment of $232.00 got an increased return of $1,200.00.

Glennflorrie Station

(Photo: Jingo, Sue Grey (Mum), Murray (Son), Leticia (Daughter))
I visited Glennflorrie Station and meet the Grey family, they are in the Murchison Region of W.A. and have missed out on rain this season. While I was there, the Grey family, were flat out organizing mustering to send cattle south to their other property.
The reason for me being at Glennflorrie Station was that they have been using BLM on both Glennflorrie and their southern property and I wanted to see how BLM was going in tough conditions.
Murray and Leticia who were in charge of mustering while Dad was down at the southern property, told me it was very noticeable that the stock that had access to BLM were in far better condition to travel then those on free water from natural springs in the creeks. They use the BLM dispensers and find the whole system very easy to use and effective on both properties.
Once Murray has time to catch a breath he is going to put in his own words how BLM is working for them.

Thangoo Station
Barn Hill
Western Australia
Thangoo Station is situated in the shire of Broome Western Australia and has been owned and operated by my family since 1960. The land system consists of Yeeda (pindan) and Roebuck (tidal coastal plains). Both systems are classed as having moderate pastor potential.
My father came to the Kimberly in the 1950s to promote the value of supplementation of livestock. Over the years we have used a variety of methods to supplement our herd. I have been using BLM for the past 6 months and am extremely satisfied with the results. They have maintained their condition and I have confirmed their mineral levels are adequate with independent blood tests. I find it convenient to use and now have peace of mind that every animal is being supplemented.
Traditionally mineral supplementation in the Kimberly has been cost prohibitive but Beachport Liquid Minerals affordability and the results I have achieved so far, I see myself using this product into the future.

Kerlson Pines Poll Hereford Stud was established in 1977 and since then has had many successful results at Naracoorte Show and Sales, and started showing in Dubbo in 2007. We gained Grand Champion Bull at the Dubbo National Show & Sale in 2008 with "Kerlson Pines Bundaberg" and in 2009 with "Kerlson Pines Comrad".
The 2009 Naracoorte Show & Sale was also a success winning Grand Champion Bull with ‘Kerlson Pines Captain'.
"Kerlson Pines Defender D2" was in the 2009 Royal Adelaide Show - Junior, Grand and Supreme Exhibit and is coming up for sale at the Dubbo National 2010.
Kerlsons Pines use Beachport Liquid Minerals Green Cap product (yard & transport) for our show animals and have had much success with it. In 2007 we purchased a majority of the Wirreanda cow herd increasing our stud numbers to 150 cows. In 2008 we bought a new property at Keith to run the cow herd, but still running the sale bulls at our property at Clements Gap. Bulls, Females, and Semen are available anytime. Inspection and visitors are welcome.

Oaklands
Elliston, Eyre Peninsula
South Australia

We run merino sheep on our property "Oaklands" near Elliston on Eyre Peninsula. We have been struggling for many years to keep our sheep healthy.
We have tried all methods from hand mixing minerals in salt, manufactured blocks, and copper and cobalt bullets. The greatest success has been since we started using "Beachport Liquid Minerals".
With BLM the sheep are getting a much greater range of trace elements, therefore becoming more healthy animals. All the sheep get BLM. We make sure the lambing ewes all receive BLM in the last 6 weeks before they lamb. We have seen a marked improvement in the lambs from birth.
An added advantage of using BLM is the fact it can be put into the drinking water using the dispenser. We use both methods, orally if the sheep are in the yards eg. crutching time, or in the water during summer.
We administer the BLM "Low Stress Mix" in our sheep before they go to market, because they have a long journey ahead of them. We want them to present in the best condition possible.
The other great advantage of BLM is it is so cost effective, and by far the best value for money.

Bledinga
Mt McIntrye, South East
South Australia

Our family property "Bledinga" runs sheep and cattle but our principal income comes from prime lamb production. "We started using Beachport Liquid Minerals in 2005, trialing it on lambs on irrigation which we thought visually didn't look to be healthy as they could have been at the time. Ruling out the possibility of worms, mineral deficiency was what we need to address. Giving the first dose of Beachport Liquid Minerals saw the lamb's condition pick up in a week and last a full six weeks. Didn't even have to check our records of when we drenched them because it was that noticeable when that time frame was up! But that may not always be the case. With varying soil types mineral deficiencies are a common problem, and with that we are always looking to maintain healthy stock, one way or another. Making up our own trace element drenches was one way that we tried to deal with this, and with some positive results in the well being of sheep told us that we can't afford not to keep trying down this path. We found that the healthier that we kept them the less prone they were to parasites and diseases which in return meant less chemical drenches, vaccines and less work. But now with more education on how major and miner elements affect our stock health we started and have continued to give all our sheep a dose of Beachport Liquid Minerals at regular intervals. We have seen an improvement and more of a consistency in our stock health right throughout the year, and from now on we're looking forward to compare our results from year to year."

Le Wonga Salers
Moorak
South Australia
"My experience with mineral supplementing goes back to growing up on the large coastal holding that belonged to my family at Beachport in South Australia. With the land being very deficient in Copper and Cobalt, these minerals were supplemented on a constant basis through stock water in Summer and on hay in Winter. Calves were given an oral drench of our own formulation at marking. No worm drenching was carried out as there was no need.
These days our herd at Le Wonga Salers cattle stud is on a very similar treatment programme through the use of B.L.M. applied on a constant basis. We anticipate that as our pastures become more productive we will be able to fully eliminate worm drenching and achieve our aim of producing the best possible eco friendly beef with the minimum amount of input.
The Salers cattle breed provides a list of unique traits and cattle productivity is unparalleled. B.L.M. works hand in hand with our management strategies to maximise the potential of our cattle."

George Legoe 1st trialled Beachport Liquid Minerals in 2006
George calculated his cost for trace elements per head in 2005 which was $4.62. Compared to 0.84c a head with the Beachport Liquid Minerals.
Weaning weights of 303 kilo average. Orally drenched with 30 mls of BLM mix at weaning. Then received the mineral supplement via the water supply with a BLM floating dispenser placed in the tanks on the property, every six weeks. A daily weight gain of 1.58 kilos a day was achieved for the period of the trial. Compared to 0.88 kilos a day for the same age stock on the area in 2005.
Initial blood tests in June when steers were weaned showed some of the trace elements in marginal quantities. However blood test taken in November showed. All trace elements had risen to the adequate range.
Legoe Farms is a 1,200 hectare property, running a 350 head predominately angus breeding herd, as well as angus steer back grounding, targeting the feed lot industry. As a Beef Cattle Producer with 29 years of involvement in the industry I can state that I finally found a product that truly suits my needs. I can highly recommend Beachport Liquid Minerals to all livestock producers for the following reasons.
EASE OF USE - I administer through my stock water system.
COST EFFECTIVE - I have cut my animal health costs since starting to use BLM.
ANIMAL PERFORMANCE - Growth rates, conception rates & general animal health have all improved since I have used BLM.
PRODUCT QUALITY - BLM uses only high quality components in the production of their products, backed up by independent NATA accredited analysis on the drum label.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT - BLM is continually looking to improve and tailor make its products, to suit the individual needs of livestock producers, as it realizes one size does not fit all!
