Beachport Liquid Mineral’s (BLM) best method of application is via the water supply, using the stainless steel Beachport Liquid Minerals Dispenser in the water trough. It simply screws into the top of a 5, 10 or 20-litre drum. (BLM Empty Dispenser Drums available if you need spare drums).

Drum must NOT be completely filled (i.e. 20 litres in a 20 litre drum). There has to be air pressure in the drum for the dispenser to work correctly over its 3-day dispensing period.

Why:  When you look at the dispenser, you can see it has an inlet and an outlet that are constantly under water in the trough so the air in the drum is trapped. For every millilitre of BLM that escapes through the outlet over the 3 days, a millilitre of water is sucked back in through the inlet to keep the air pressure constant.  So, if you put 15 litres of BLM in a 20-litre drum, 3 days later BLM will be replaced by 15 litres of water due to the water pressure in the drum.

Note: Ensure at least half the drum contains product or a combination of BLM & water to ensure flow rates are not affected.

DOSE STEPS

  • Work out how many stock on water point: e.g. 200 breeders x 50 ml = 10 litres.  (For larger mobs, consider splitting the dose and treating every 3 weeks.)
  • Measure 10 litres of White Cap into a clean, empty 20-litre drum.
  • Screw the BLM Dispenser tightly onto the top of the drum.
  • Ensure the trough has been cleaned thoroughly prior to placing the floating drum and dispenser into the water. This prevents the inlet on the dispenser blocking when water is being sucked back into the drum.
  • Drop the drum with dispenser into the trough. It will automatically right itself into the correct position with the stainless steel dispenser under water.
  • Let the drum move freely around the trough; the stock will not knock it out.
  • Leave the drum dispensing in the trough for at least three days, then return and empty the water left in drum into the trough (it may be a weak tea color). Take the drum and dispenser to another trough or back to the shed – Job’s done!
  • In 6 weeks, repeat the process.

IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances can BLM products be mixed with other products in the water supply at the same time. This includes UREA.

  • Dose amounts remain the same.
  • You can pour the correct dose amount directly into the tank but ensure that the tank does not overflow. Ensure the header tank to be treated has NO leaks.
  • DO NOT turn tank supply off risking stock running out of the water. Water flow is essential to allow the White Cap to suspend in the water and clouds on the movement to the outlet.
  • Calculate the amount of product needed based on the number of stock being supplied by the tank.
  • Pour the required amount directly into the tank. DO NOT turn off the tank, let it fill as normal.
  • BLM should not be put in a tank with excessive sediment present.

Note: If multiple tanks in line, ensure the closest tank to stock is dosed.

  • Mix the required amount of product with a volume of water that is sufficient enough to be able to evenly pour onto the hay that’s been fed out.
  • Add an extra 10% of product to allow for wastage.
  • Complete the dose over 3 applications, not just one.

Beachport Liquid Minerals can be mixed with feed. Due to the many variables, please call your local Regional Manager or our Head Office to find out the best way to fit Beachport Liquid Minerals into your program.

  • Beachport Liquid Minerals should not be put in a tank with excessive sediment present.

Note: If multiple tanks in line, ensure closest tank to stock is dosed.

White Cap can be used through drench guns without blockages when necessary but the most efficient, low-stress method is via the water.

  • Dose rates are the same.
  • Ensure drench gun is cleaned thoroughly.
  • If mixing Beachport Liquid Minerals with other products, perform a jar test to ensure the products are compatible
  • Mix on the day of use and do not store any remaining mixture.
  • When drenching stock, use a short nozzle gun and take care not to drench into lungs.
  • When orally drenching, DO NOT mix any Beachport Liquid Minerals product that contains selenium with another product containing Selenium. Beachport Liquid Minerals Black Cap Selenium Free has been specifically designed for this purpose.
  • Mix the required amount of product with a volume of water that is sufficient enough to be able to evenly pour onto the hay that’s been fed out.

Transport Guidelines

  • Never pour all the required amount of Beachport Liquid Minerals Green Cap into the water trough in one application. The aniseed in Green Cap attracts animals but too much may, in some cases, make it too sweet and they won’t drink. Also be aware that if you put it all in at once you take the risk of only the lead getting the product.
  • Always check that cattle are drinking the water after dosing water with green cap.
  • It takes Green Cap at least 12 hours to get into the system of the animal. To ensure that all stock get an even amount of Green Cap, at least another 12 hours on dosed water is recommended.

NOTE: Don’t give first dose of Green Cap under 24 hours of trucking. Without sufficient time to get into the system of the animal, it won’t be effective.

Dose with BLM Dispenser over a 3 day period. For a shorter period of time, split the dose evenly and refer to manual trough application instructions.

Pour required dose amount directly into tank at least 3 days before trucking. Make sure tank doesn’t overflow (green cap will be lost via overflow) and allow tank to refill normally. This can be done up to a week before transport.

EXAMPLE: If trucking at 9.00am Monday, pour the full amount into the tank on Friday morning.

If treating a trough in a yard prior to trucking or with weaners just after separation and you are using a jug to pour the BLM (Green Cap) into the trough, it is critical that you DO NOT overdose the trough. It will have NO negative effect medically but you may risk having too much product available initially. The increased aniseed smell and taste may reduce their water consumption. Split into at least thirds and pour into trough in the early morning, late evening and early the next morning. The more spread out, the better.

EXAMPLE: If the numbers in the yard dictate that you need 9 litres of product, then pour 3 litres in trough initially (afternoon), followed by a second dose of 3 litres the next morning, followed by a third dose of 3 litres later that afternoon. Ensure livestock are drinking.

Can be dosed up to a week before trucking with excellent results.

Mix the required amount of product with a volume of water that is sufficient enough to be able to evenly pour onto the hay that’s been fed out.  Add an extra 10% of the product to allow for wastage. Spread out the application over 3 day period prior to trucking. This application can be started up to a week before trucking with excellent results.

EXAMPLE: If trucking at 9.00am Monday, pour the Green Cap mixture onto hay Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a third of BLM each day.

Weaning Guidelines

Treat all animals (cows and calves OR ewes and lambs) 48 to 72 hours prior to yarding using the dispenser OR treat weaners in the yards post-weaning.

If you are treating both cows and calves prior to weaning in the paddock, determine how many cows you have and determine how many calves you have and treat according to their weights.

EXAMPLE: 200 weaners & 200 cows
200 weaners at 250kg at 30 ml per head      = 6 litres
200 cows at over 400kg at 50 ml per head   = 10 litres
TOTAL = 16 litres

  • Put 16 litres into a clean, empty 20 litre drum
  • Screw the BLM Dispenser tightly onto the top of the drum.
  • Ensure the trough has been cleaned thoroughly prior to placing the floating drum and dispenser into the water. This prevents the inlet on the dispenser blocking when water is being sucked back into the drum.
  • Drop the drum with dispenser into the trough. It will automatically right itself into the correct position with the stainless steel dispenser under water.
  • Let the drum move freely around the trough, the stock will not knock it out.
  • Leave the drum dispensing in the trough for at least 3 days, then return and empty the water left in drum into trough (it may be a weak tea colour). Take drum and dispenser to another trough or back to the shed – Job done!
  • 6 weeks later, you can treat them again with either White Cap, Blue Cap or Black Cap, dependent on your area.

Note: If you have bigger mobs, consider manually dosing the troughs.

For dosing weaners in the yards post-weaning, put the product and dispenser into the trough as they go into the yards. Don’t put it in before, as the dispenser will be dispensing out and the water may become too sweet if there are no animals there to drink it.

EXAMPLE:
200 weaners at 250kg is 30 ml per head = 6 litres

  • Measure out how much product you require.
  • Put 6 litres into a clean, empty 10L drum
  • Screw the BLM Dispenser tightly onto the top of the drum.
  • Ensure the trough has been cleaned thoroughly prior to placing the floating drum and dispenser into the water. This prevents the inlet on the dispenser blocking when water is being sucked back into the drum.
  • Drop the drum with dispenser into the trough. It will automatically right itself into the correct position with the stainless steel dispenser under water.
  • Let the drum move freely around the trough; the stock will not knock it out.

Feedlot Guidelines

Due to the variations associated with feedlotting, we believe a tailored approach would be more beneficial. To find out how Green Cap can best fit into your feedlot situation, please contact your nearest Regional Manager or contact our Head Office.

Horses

All BLM products have several application methods, designed for ease of use and flexibility to suit your program. The Red Cap can be used in the water trough by manually pouring directly into trough, by orally dosing or by mixing with hay or feed. See below for further information on each application method.

BLM’s best method of application is via the water supply. With most BLM products we would usually recommend using the BLM Dispenser but because you will be using smaller amounts for horses, it is best to pour straight into the water supply.

DOSE STEPS for multiple horses

  • Work out how many horses are on water point and multiply by 20 ml for mature horses or 10 ml for lighter, younger horses.
  • Split the total amount in half and dose in two applications over two days.
  • Splitting the total dose ensure’s product is evenly dosed.
  • Repeat the above process every 2 weeks for a maintenance
    level.

DOSE STEPS for individual horse

  • Dose amount: 20mls for mature horses, 10mls for younger and light horses.
  • Pour dose amount directly into water supply.
  • Repeat the above process every 2 weeks for a maintenance
    level.

Red Cap can be used through drench guns without blockages when necessary but the most efficient, low stress method is via the water or feed.

  • Ensure drench gun is cleaned thoroughly.
  • Do not drench with any other products.
  • Mix the required amount of product with a volume of water that is sufficient enough to be able to evenly pour onto the feed.
  • Add an extra 10% of product to allow for wastage.
  • Dose over 2 applications (not one). Unless only dosing individual horse.
  • If you are dosing an individual horse, dose can be applied directly onto feed in one application.

Cattle

Beachport Liquid Mineral’s (BLM) best method of application is via the water supply, using the stainless steel Beachport Liquid Minerals Dispenser in the water trough. It simply screws into the top of a 5, 10 or 20 litre drum. (BLM Empty Dispenser Drums available if you need spare drums).

Note: Ensure at least half the drum contains product or a combination of BLM & water to ensure flow rates are not affected.

DOSE STEPS

  • Work out how many stock on water point: e.g. 200 breeders x 25ml = 5 litres. Treat 3 times weekly to keep magnesium levels elevated.
  • Measure 5 litres of BLM High Magnesium into a clean, empty 10 litre drum.
  • Leave the drum dispensing in the trough for at least three days then return and empty the water left in drum into trough (it may be a weak tea colour). Take drum and dispenser to another trough or back to the shed – Job done!
  • In 3 weeks, repeat the process.

IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances can BLM products be mixed with other products in the water supply at the same time. This includes UREA.

  • Dose amounts remain the same (25 ml per head for an adult dose)
  • You can pour the correct dose amount directly into the tank but ensure that the tank does not overflow. Ensure the header tank to be treated has NO leaks.
  • DO NOT turn tank supply off risking stock running out of water. Water flow is essential to allow BLM High Magnesium to suspend in the water and clouds on movement to outlet.
  • Calculate the amount of product needed based on the number of stock being supplied by the tank.
  • Pour the required amount directly into the tank. DO NOT turn off tank, and let it fill as normal.

Note: If multiple tanks in line, ensure closest tank to stock is dosed.

  • Mix the required amount of product with a volume of water that is sufficient enough to be able to evenly pour onto the hay that’s been fed out.
  • Add an extra 10% of product to allow for wastage.
  • Complete the dose over 3 applications, not just one.

We strongly recommend two applications three weeks apart, with an inline system turned up to the maximum for three days. This is the time it takes to get it through the system as soon as possible. Turn off after the three days.

  • You can pour the correct dose amount directly into the tank but ensure that the tank does not overflow. Ensure the header tank to be treated has NO leaks.
  • DO NOT turn tank supply off and risk stock running out of water. Water flow is essential to allow the BLM High Magnesium to suspend in the water and clouds on movement to outlet.
  • Calculate the amount of product needed based on the number of stock that are supplied by the tank.
  • Pour the required amount directly into the tank. DO NOT turn off tank, and let it fill as normal.
  • BLM should not be put in a tank with excessive sediment present.

Cattle

Beachport Liquid Mineral’s (BLM) best method of application is via the water supply, using the stainless steel Beachport Liquid Minerals Dispenser in the water trough. It simply screws into the top of a 5, 10 or 20-litre drum. (BLM Empty Dispenser Drums available if you need spare drums).

Drum must NOT be completely filled (i.e. 20 litres in a 20-litre drum).

  • Measure 10 litres of Organic White Cap into a clean, empty 20-litre drum.
  • Leave the drum dispensing in the trough for at least three days, then return and empty the water left in drum into the trough (it may be a weak tea colour). Take the drum and dispenser to another trough or back to the shed – Job done!
  • In 6 weeks, repeat the process.

Organic White Cap can be used through drench guns, without blockages, when necessary but the most efficient, low-stress method is via the water.

  • Dose rates are the same.
  • Ensure drench gun is cleaned thoroughly.
  • If mixing BLM with other products, perform a jar test to ensure the products are compatible
  • Mix on the day of use and do not store any remaining mixture.
  • When drenching stock, use a short nozzle gun and take care not to drench into lungs.
  • When orally drenching, DO NOT mix any BLM product that contains selenium with another product containing Selenium.
  • Mix the required amount of product with a volume of water that is sufficient enough to be able to evenly pour onto the hay that’s been fed out.
  • Add an extra 10% of the product to allow for wastage.

Transport Guidelines

  • Never pour all the required amount of Beachport Liquid Minerals Organic Green Cap into the water trough in one application. The aniseed in organic Green Cap attracts animals, but too much may, in some cases, make it too sweet and they won’t drink. Also be aware that if you put it all in at once you take the risk of only the lead stock getting the product.
  • Always check that cattle are drinking the water after dosing the water with Organic Green Cap.
  • It takes Organic Green Cap at least 12 hours to get into the system of the animal. To ensure that all stock get an even amount of Green Cap, at least another 12 hours on dosed water is recommended.

NOTE: Don’t give the first dose of Organic Green Cap under 24 hours of trucking.

If treating a trough in a yard prior to trucking or with weaners just after separation and you are using a jug to pour the BLM (Organic Green Cap) into the trough, it is critical that you DO NOT overdose the trough. It will have NIL negative effect medically but you may risk having too much product available initially. The increased aniseed smell and taste may reduce their water consumption. Split into at least thirds and pour into a trough in the early morning, late evening and early the next morning. The more spread out, the better.

EXAMPLE: If the numbers in the yard dictate that you need 9 litres of the product, then pour 3 litres in trough initially (afternoon), followed by a second dose of 3 litres the next morning, followed by a third dose of 3 litres later that afternoon.

TOTAL = 16 litres

  • Leave the drum dispensing in the trough for at least 3 days, then return and empty the water left in drum into the trough (it may be a weak tea colour). Take drum and dispenser to another trough or back to the shed – Job done!

  • Leave the drum dispensing in the trough for at least 3 days, then return and empty the water left in drum into the trough (it may be a weak tea colour). Take drum and dispenser to another trough or back to the shed – Job done!

Note: If you have bigger mobs, consider manually dosing the troughs.
