Performance and weight gain

Unlocking productivity with smart nutrition. Consistent weight gain is the foundation of profitable livestock production. Whether you are finishing cattle, growing replacement heifers or lifting lamb performance, the goal is the same: convert feed into saleable kilograms as efficiently as possible.

But performance isn’t just about how much feed is in the paddock. It’s about how well animals can utilise that feed.

Even on good pasture, shortfalls in trace elements, amino acids or electrolytes can quietly limit:

  • Daily weight gain
  • Frame development
  • Feed conversion efficiency
  • Recovery after stress
  • Sale weights and carcase performance

LivestockIQ supplements are designed to bridge that gap by supporting the animal’s metabolism directly through the bloodstream, helping livestock make better use of the nutrition already available on farm.

What drives weight gain at an animal level

Growth is built on three key pillars.

Efficient protein and energy use

Amino acids are the building blocks of muscle, milk and wool. Without adequate supply, animals can’t fully convert energy into tissue, even when feed quality looks good.

Trace element function

  • Growth and tissue repair
  • Immune resilience
  • Fertility and hormone function
  • Bone and frame development

Stress resilience

Transport, weaning, heat, cold and diet change all reduce intake and nutrient absorption, directly slowing weight gain.

LivestockIQ formulations supply up to 11 bioavailable trace elements and 15 amino acids, along with natural electrolytes, to support these core growth pathways during both normal production and high-demand periods.

Proven results: University of Adelaide trial

To validate on-farm observations, LivestockIQ formulations were independently assessed in a controlled trial through the University of Adelaide, School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences.

The study evaluated cattle supplemented via the water supply against unsupplemented control groups and demonstrated:

  • Higher trace element levels in the bloodstream
  • Improved average daily weight gain
  • Better overall condition and metabolic stability
  • Effective delivery without daily labour or yarding

The trial confirmed that providing trace elements and amino acids in a highly bioavailable form can translate directly into measurable production gains, not just improved blood results.

More kilograms produced from the same feed base.

What producers commonly see on farm

Producers running LivestockIQ programs regularly report:

  • More even mobs with fewer tail-enders, growth becomes more consistent across the group rather than a split between good doers and strugglers
  • Stronger appetite and better feed utilisation on both dry feed and fresh green pick
  • Faster recovery after stress events such as weaning, transport, induction or sudden weather change
  • Improved turn-off weights and market readiness without increasing labour or handling
  • Better frame development in young stock, supporting lifetime performance
  • Smoother seasonal transitions, particularly dry to green feed shifts
  • Improved breeder condition, helping cows and ewes hold weight through joining and lactation
  • Greater resilience during high-pressure periods like heat, cold, shearing or crutching
  • Reduced performance slumps that typically follow handling or diet change
  • More predictable results from the same feed base, rather than chasing gains with extra inputs

For many operations, the biggest benefit isn’t one single outcome, it’s the overall lift in consistency: livestock hold condition better, growth curves stay steadier, and management becomes less reactive.

“It’s not about pushing animals harder, it’s about helping them use what they already have more efficiently.”

Where producers see the biggest gains

LivestockIQ programs are commonly used to support performance during:

Weaner and grower phases

Finishing programs

Pre-joining and post-calving or lambing recovery

Seasonal feed transitions, dry to green and green to dry

After transport, induction or handling

Matching the right support to your needs

Two programs, two jobs.

Ultranex and Meganex

Designed for ongoing year-round performance support, helping livestock:

  • Utilise both dry and green feed more effectively
  • Maintain consistent growth through seasonal change
  • Support fertility, immunity and frame development

StressGuard

Targeted for periods when weight gain is most at risk:

  • Weaning and induction
  • Transport and handling
  • Feedlot induction and exit
  • Sudden diet change

Together, these programs help protect daily weight gain when it matters most, without the labour and stress of frequent yarding.

Weight gain is about utilisation, not just intake

Two mobs can graze the same paddock and perform very differently. The difference is often not feed quantity, but metabolic access to key nutrients.

New in the range

Why we've added boron

Boron is a trace mineral that works behind the scenes. Rather than doing one job on its own, it influences how the body handles other key minerals. That’s why it’s now included in our conventional livestock formulations.

Where boron plays a role
Mineral metabolismBoron interacts with how the body uses calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin D.
Calcium and phosphorus useTrials in pigs and poultry have linked boron to better calcium and phosphorus retention and stronger bones.1,2
Bone and skeletal developmentBoron is involved in bone formation and mineralisation, alongside calcium, phosphorus and magnesium.2
Antioxidant and immune activityReviews link boron to antioxidant activity and immune response, helping support animals through stress.2
What about cattle and sheep? Research in ruminants is still developing. Studies in dairy cows around calving have looked at boron's effect on energy metabolism and colostrum, with promising early results.3,4 We see boron as a supporting player that rounds out our formulations, working alongside the trace elements and 16 amino acids already in the range.
OrganicMax* and OrganicGuard* remain boron-free to meet organic input requirements.
