BLM Floating Dispenser
USING BLM DISPENSER WITH LARGE MOBS OF CATTLE
You must have a quarter of the 20 ltr. drum empty as the system works on air and water replacement.
Water will replace the supplement up to the amount of supplement placed in drum.
It takes about three to four days to meter the supplement out after being placed into the tank with the drum upside down.
To make it easy to retrieve the drum and dispenser. Tie a length of rope the same length as the depth of the tank to the handle of the drum and the delivery pipe. This also makes it easier to get the drum up into the tank.
To get the best result spread the ltrs of supplement needed out evenly over the six weeks. This ensures all stock get access to the supplement.
Example 1: 1,000 head of adults on 1 water point (50mls per head for 6 weeks)
1000 animals would need 50 ltrs every six weeks. To keep it simple dose every 2 weeks with ¾ of a 20 ltr. drum. Put ¾ full drum into tank upside down with the BLM dispenser replacing the cap. The dispenser will meter supplement out over the next three days into the tank. Return 2 weeks later empty the water out of the drum that has replaced the supplement. Then ¾ fill with supplement and return to the tank. If stock has access to 2 water points use a dispenser in each tank and ½ the amount of supplement (8 ltrs instead of 16 ltrs.)
Example 2: 600 head of adults on 1 water point (50mls p/h for 6 weeks)
600 animals would need 30 ltrs every 6 weeks. To keep simple 10 ltrs every 2 weeks using the BLM dispenser.
Example 3: 600 cows and 200 kg. weaners 600 x 50 mls =30 ltrs 600 x 20 mls. = 12ltrs
A total of 42 ltrs per 6 weeks. Divide by 3 applications (every 2 weeks for 6 weeks)
So ¾ of a 20 ltr. drum every 2 weeks.
